This summer of 1966 has been a long and hot one as America is still reeling from racial tensions and foreign wars, but nothing compares to what happened on the night of July 13, 1966 in a sleepy suburban community on the south side of Chicago. On this hot and seamy July night, the windy city was haunted by the menacing acts of Richard Speck. Driven by anger and revenge, spurned on drugs, Speck entered a boarding house and systematically terrorized eight nursing students. But what he never counted on was the will of one woman to stay alive. Cora Amurao had come to America from the Philippines in search of a new life.
